What is Online/Offline Version 4.3?

   1. Viewpoint Online and
   2. Viewpoint Offline
      This includes desktop icons, help files and user guides for Viewpoint Online and Offline.

   2. Flash Player 7 (Windows NT only)
3. Microsoft Software NB: This is only installed by the FULL version, not by the Lite version:
   1. Microsoft Speech API (SAPI) 5.1
   2. Microsoft Speech API (SAPI) 4.0
   3. Microsoft Agents:
      1. Birdie
      2. Cami
      3. Electra
      4. Hanz
      5. Marge

System Requirements

Pre-requisites

• Windows Script 5.6 (for the appropriate Operating System). Viewpoint recommends that this is installed before installation of Viewpoint Online/Offline 4.3. Windows 7 and Vista Operating Systems do not require this patch. Also if your computer is up-to-date with the latest Microsoft updates it will already have this installed and you needn't manually install this, but if in doubt, these are available for download from the Microsoft websites below:
  
  (NB: You may be required to restart your computer after this installation, so do take care to save ALL work and close down all other windows BEFORE installing this patch.)

• ActiveX controls must be enabled (in Internet Explorer Security Settings).
• Scripting must be enabled (also in Internet Explorer Security Settings).
• Pop-ups must be enabled from the Viewpoint website - https://www.vptol.co.uk (also in Internet Explorer Security Settings).
  
  NB: If you have other Internet Security and/or pop-up blocking software installed on your machine these MUST also be similarly configured to allow popups, activeX controls and scripting.

Minimum Specification

• Operating System: Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7.
• Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 5.5. or above.
• Memory: 64MB RAM.
• Free Disk Space: 30MB is required to install the Viewpoint Online/Offline 4.3.
• Soundcard: Standard soundcard installed.
• Speakers or headphones: Speakers or headphones are required, however headphones may be more suitable for a classroom environment.

Installation Instructions

Important Points to Note:

1. You MUST have administrator privileges on your computer in order to be able to install (or uninstall) Viewpoint Online/Offline 4.3.
2. Before installing Viewpoint Online/Offline 4.3, first uninstall any/all versions of Viewpoint software previously installed:
   1. If the Viewpoint Offline 4.2 update (patch) is installed, first uninstall this.
   2. Uninstall Viewpoint Online/Offline 4.0
      This is done by going to: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs (Programs and Features for Vista). Click on the respective entry of Viewpoint Software and click on "Remove".
3. Unless use of one of the above listed languages with Microsoft Agent is required, Viewpoint recommends the installation of the Lite version of Viewpoint Online/Offline.
4. Viewpoint Online/Offline 4.3 (FULL) installs all of the above listed software Even though all users may not require the use of all software installed (for example, the foreign languages), ALL of these necessarily MUST be installed in order to ensure the proper running of Viewpoint Offline.
5. For installation of the FULL version, you will be prompted a number of times (in different languages) during the installation of the foreign text-to-speech (TTS) engines. It is important that you select “YES” when prompted. This is ALWAYS the button on the LEFT.
6. You will be prompted at the end of the install to restart your computer. In order to avoid any data loss, it is important that you save any/all important work before restarting.

• Installation:
  NB: Installation is intended for users who have permissions to install and un-install software on their computer. Those without these permissions should try the upgrade instead. Viewpoint recommends installation of the LITE version in ALL cases. This is suited to general purpose use and is a much simpler installation.
  1. Go to the Viewpoint Downloads page and click on the Viewpoint Online/Offline Version 4.3 (Lite) setup file.
  2. Click "Run" on the dialogue window. (You may also click "save", select a location on your computer to save the file to and then double-click the downloaded file to start the installation wizard.)
  3. Follow the instructions given by the installation wizard (bearing in mind the important points above).
  4. For the LITE version simply follow the instructions of the installation wizard. There will be no further prompts except possibly for Flash.
  5. For the FULL version, you will be prompted a number of times (in different languages) during the installation of the foreign text-to-speech (TTS) engines. It is important that you select “YES” when prompted. This is ALWAYS the button on the LEFT.
  6. Save and close any open documents then restart your computer.
  7. For users who wish to use Viewpoint Offline from a directory other than the Program Files folder:
     
     1. Navigate to the C:/Program Files/Viewpoint/Offline/V4 folder.
     2. Open up the file offline.config using Notepad.
     3. Edit the first directory path to point to your desired directory.
     4. Save and Close.
• Upgrade:
  NB: Online/Offline 4.0 Plus is intended for users who currently have Offline 4.0 installed and are unable to install Online/Offline 4.3.
  For users who currently have an earlier version of Online/Offline 4.2(.x) an upgrade to the latest LITE version is recommended in ALL cases.
  1. Download, save and unzip Viewpoint Online/Offline 4.3 (Lite).
  2. Copy and paste the contents of the V4 folder in the corresponding folder of the existing installation V4 folder.
  3. On some versions of Windows, it may be necessary to "unblock" the login.htm file in order for Online/Offline to continue to function correctly. To do this:
     1. Navigate to the C:/Program Files/Viewpoint/Offline/V4 folder.
     2. Right-click on the login.htm file and select "Properties".
     3. Click the "Unblock" button in the bottom right of the dialogue box
     4. Click "Apply", then "Ok"
  4. For users who wish to use Viewpoint Offline from a directory other than the Program Files folder:
     
     1. Navigate to the C:/Program Files/Viewpoint/Offline/V4 folder.
     2. Open up the file offline.config using Notepad.
     3. Edit the first directory path to point to your desired directory.
     4. Save and Close.

What's New In Version 4.0

New Features

• Viewpoint Online and Offline 4.0 have now been bundled together into a single installation.
• Viewpoint Online and Offline 4.0 are both now completely free so there is no longer any need for an Installation key in order to install the software.
• Quick links to the Installation Notes, the (revised) User Guides and this readme document are now automatically installed and are accessible from the Start -> Programs -> Viewpoint -> Offline menu item on your computer at any time.
