System Requirements

Pre-requisites Windows Script 5.6 (for the appropriate Operating System). Viewpoint recommends that this is installed before installation of Viewpoint Online / Offline 4.0. If your computer is up-to-date with the latest Microsoft updates it will already have this installed and you needn't manually install this, but if in doubt, these are available for download from the Microsoft websites below: (NB: You may be required to restart your computer after this installation, so do take care to save ALL work and close down all other windows BEFORE installing this patch.) For Windows - 2000 and XP - at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=C717D943-7E4B-4622-86EB-95A22B832CAA&displaylang=en For Windows Server 2003 - at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=887FCE82-E3F5-4289-A5E3-6CBB818623AA&displaylang=en For Windows - 98, ME and NT - at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=0A8A18F6-249C-4A72-BFCF-FC6AF26DC390&displaylang=en ActiveX controls must be enabled (in Internet Explorer Security Settings). Scripting must be enabled (also in Internet Explorer Security Settings). Pop-ups must be enabled from the Viewpoint website - https://www.vptol.co.uk (also in Internet Explorer Security Settings). NB: If you have other Internet Security and/or pop-up blocking software installed on your machine these MUST also be similarly configured to allow popups, activeX controls and scripting.

Minimum Specification To use Viewpoint Offline 4.0 you need a PC (Apple Macintosh is not supported) with at least the following: Operating System: Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows 2003. Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 5.5. or above. Memory: 64MB RAM. Free Disk Space: 20MB is required to install the Viewpoint Online / Offline 4.0. Soundcard: Standard soundcard installed. Speakers or headphones: Speakers or headphones are required, however headphones may be more suitable for a classroom environment.

Software Installed

Adobe Flash Player 9 (Macromedia Flash Player 7 is installed on NT). Microsoft SAPI 5.1 Speech Engine. Necessary files and folders for running Viewpoint Offline 4.0. (Optional) Desktop icons for both Viewpoint Online and Offline 4.0. Festival Welsh Speech Engine (optional additional installation).

Installation Instructions

Please Note: Viewpoint Offline 4.0 requires the Viewpoint Online Plugins to be Installed. These are automatically installed with Viewpoint Online/Offline 4.0. You can check if the Viewpoint Online Plugins are installed by clicking here (requires connection to Internet). You MUST have administrator privileges on your computer in order to be able to install (or uninstall) Viewpoint Online / Offline 4.0. To install Viewpoint Online / Offline 4.0: From the Viewpoint Online Downloads page If you have not installed a previous version of Viewpoint Offline, download and install the Viewpoint Offline Version 4.0 setup file from the Viewpoint Downloads page If you have a previously installed version of Viewpoint Offline, it is recommended that you first uninstall this version before installing Viewpoint Online / Offline 4.0. Download and install the Viewpoint Offline Version 4.0 setup file from the Viewpoint Downloads page From CD If you have not installed a previous version of Viewpoint Offline, insert the Viewpoint Online/Offline Version 4.0 CD into your CD ROM Drive. The Installshield wizard should automatically start and guide you through the installation. If you have a previously installed version of Viewpoint Offline, uninstall this version before installing Viewpoint Online/Offline Version 4.0. Insert the Viewpoint Online/Offline Version 4.0 CD into your CD ROM Drive. The Installshield wizard should automatically start and guide you through the installation. The "typical" install installs BOTH Viewpoint Online and Offline 4.0, with desktop icons for each. For users not wanting to install either Viewpoint Offline 4.0 OR either (or both) desktop icons, select the "custom" install. De-select the features that you do not wish to install, then continue. This is a FREE installation and no serial number is now required in order to install this software. The installation is freely available for download and installation at any time, from the Viewpoint website at: www.vptol.co.uk/downloads. For users who require the Welsh Speech Engine (Festival), a separate installation of this (third party) software has been included on the Viewpoint installation disc for convenience. To install this, navigate to the "festival" folder on the installation disc and double click the "setup.exe" file. This will then guide you through the installation process. This is however not guaranteed to be the very latest version. The very latest version of the Welsh Speech Engine (Festival) can be found here. Additional Information about the Welsh Speech (Festival) can be found here. Acknowledgements go out to the University of Bangor for kindly making this available for re-distribution. For users working on Windows NT, the Flash Player does not support NT, hence Flash Player 7 has been included on the installation disc for convenience. A message indicating the failure to install Flash 9 will be generated during the Viewpoint Offline installation. Macromedia Flash Player 7 will then be automatically installed. Flash Palyer 7 can be accessed any time after the completion of the installation, NT users can then navigate to the "flash7" folder on the Viewpoint Offline installation CD and double click the "Flash Player 7.exe" file located there. This will install Flash Player 7. You will then be able to use Viewpoint offline as usual.
What's New in Version 4.0

New Features Viewpoint Online and Offline 4.0 have now been bundled together into a single installation. Viewpoint Online and Offline 4.0 are both now completely free so there is no longer any need for an Installation key in order to install the software. Quick links to the Installation Notes, the (revised) User Guides and this readme document are now automatically installed and are accessible from the Start -> Programs -> Viewpoint -> Offline menu item on your computer at any time. Viewpoint Offine 4.0 now operates in a different folder to previous versions. It operates in the folder: C:/Program Files/Viewpoint/Offline/V4. It is now possible to generate (up to 750) anonymous logins offline. A more efficient download mechanism now facilitates the download of up to seven hundred and fifty (750) user-questionnaire combinations at any one time (up from 20) The Online (management) download (and upload) features for Offline have been similarly improved to not only reflect the improved efficiency, but to also be more consistent with the look and feel of the rest of the Online user environment. Additional themes and assistants are now available in the questionnaire display. Viewpoint Offline 4.0 now installs and uses Adobe Flash Player 9. It is now possible to customise the font colour and background colour of display text in the questionnaire. A new feature has been added to the upload process that automatically emails a designated manager everytime a questionnaire is uploaded. Expiry and warning system for data files approaching or over 90 days old. Date checks for wrong dates on the computer upon which Offline 4.0 is being used. Large button at the end of questionnaires to highlight how to exit questionnaires. Miscellaneous bug fixes and improvements have been implemented in the questionnaire display, the download and the upload processes.

What's New in Version 3.1

New Features Support for Miscellaneous symbols has been added. Flash Player has been updated to Version 8. Support for foreign languages and in particular, Welsh has been added.

What's New in Version 3.0

New Look A new loading screen has been designed and implemented. Three new themes have been added: beach, underwater and jungle. New Features Ping Pong game has been added. Offline Individual Report has been added. Support for Accessibility questionnaires has been added. Problems Fixed A problem with completed questionnaires given the option to restart and resume has been fixed. A problem with missing Body data from the 'data.off' file that caused Viewpoint Offline to fail has been fixed. General Offline interactive has been updated to allow external resources to be used. Offline interactive has been improved to increase speed and stability.

What's New in Version 2.1

New Features Feature to check if the Speech plugin is installed (Microsoft SAPI 5 Speech Engine). Problems Fixed A problem restarting and resuming questionnaires has been fixed. A problem with users that have long User Version Id numbers has been fixed. A problem with the questionnaire text being spoken rather than the phonetic text has been fixed. A problem with restarting questionnaires that were started online has been fixed.

What's New in Version 2.0
New Look The overall look of Viewpoint Offline has been updated to reflect the changes made to Viewpoint Online.

New Features New version of Viewpoint Interactive. Improved data handling has been implemented. Update notification feature has been added. Various problems fixed, including issues with date format in Windows 98.
Uninstallation NB: You MUST have administrator privileges in order to remove Viewpoint Online / Offline 4.0. To uninstall Viewpoint Online / Offline 4.0, go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs. Click on the entry for Viewpoint Online/ Offline 4.0 and click on "Remove".
